I have been trying very hard to get rid of all of my paid links for my directory Biz Dir in an effort to get back into Big G's good graces, I find myself offering people cash in an attempt to get them to remove my links. I think I have got two more site owners to get hold of and I am clean (one day at a time). A little while back I bought a few paid reviews via Pay Per Post and getting in touch with these bloggers has been a nightmare, all done now, but I have just noticed that two of the blogs appear to have been hit with Google ranking penalties (-40 or so):The 1st is womenmumbles.com, I would bet a lot of cash that this Women did not have the slightest idea that she was breaking the webmaster guidelines, read her blog. It seems a shame because so many high profile bloggers sell links, get away with it and create the impression that it is an O.K. thing to do, this poor women has followed suit and been penalized. The 2nd is yapnwun.blogspot.com, again this blogger does not strike me as the type of person who is going to be reading the webmaster guidelines.I knew what I was doing was wrong with my directory, so I guess I had it coming but these bloggers blatantly do not, is this a fair thing to do?edit: O.K. I have just read Patrick's submission and 1 or 2 of the high profile ones may not be getting off with it scot free, but still a loss of PageRank is nothing compared to a loss of Google rank, it is almost like a "virtual penalty".

31 Vote(s)

Just noticed today that Dmoz have switched from dmoz.org to www.dmoz.org and 301'd all of the non www. URLs, I think the 301'ing is definitely a good move, the amount of times I have seen people link to the www. version. I would have thought that they would have been better sticking with the non www. version after all of this time though. Digg and a few other large sites need to follow their example I think.

11 Vote(s)

I have posted this discussion in the link building category all though it is more to do with link unbuilding.O.K. so when I 1st launched my site I experimented with paid links, a bit like I did with drugs when I was younger. I soon realized that this was not the way to go and removed the vast majority of the PR6, PR7 ones etc. that I was paying for and all in all my link profile for my site is pretty clean, however I would really like some feedback from some of you on a few questions that I have.Paid links that are not being paid for - Back in January some time, this Indian fella who was posting in the forums needed a bit of cash because he was going to university, and said if I could sort him $20 he would stick me on the homepage of his SEO site for a month. I sent him the $20 and I am still on his website now, I don't see him around any more. Am I right in thinking that technically speaking that is not a paid link because it is not being paid for? Or am I just kidding myself?Tag cloud links - So I have paid to be on two of them tag cloud pages, you know the ones I mean Million Dollar Homepage rip offs (stupid move I know), should I go out of my way to get rid of these or is it safe to say that G will just discount these two links?Links that look paid that are not - A directory owner recently delisted three of my listings and I had three sites that were linking back to the directory. This really rattled my cage and I went on a bit of a sick one about it. The directory owner explained that she had been having spam problems and that she had changed the script and lost the database, in order to make things right with me she offered to stick one of my sites on as a site-wide on her directory for the rest of the year. It was quite a powerful and established directory so I said yes, now she has put of my site in the sponsored links section so it really does look like it is being paid for but it is not, should I get rid of this just to be safe?I would really appreciate any feedback that anyone might have regarding any of the questions.

2 Vote(s)
