Just finished reading Blogging Heroes by Michael Banks - great book, insightful commentary by top name bloggers... but I'm left wondering...Do bloggers get the concepts behind monetization and the potential their traffic holds? I don't mean the small-time, new folks who want to get rich quick, I'm thinking the long term folks, with readership and the notion than making money from their blog is somewhat verboten... just cannot wrap my head around that. I respect them for their choice - if it was a choice - however. Most in this book clearly DO understand their position, but the fact that monetization (and tactics like organic optimization) were not "settled" and clearly one sided (YES, I want traffic AND I want money.) got me thinking of the broader scope of blogging.Damn, I might start a blog with no ads now... ;)

3 Vote(s)

Well, I think this may really hurt. :(I mean, how has user behavior been taken into consideration? If a user *tries* to click on the ad, and nothing happens, will they hunt around for the small windows that will allow their click, or will they assume the site is at fault and leave?Feels to me like Google listened to "those complaining and those paying the money" as opposed to "all involved".I think maybe my revenues will suffer as users relearn what activates the click-through action on Google ads......and how does this affect link unit ads? My guess is they will become even more effective and we'll see them used more and more than they already are...Time to watch the revenue very closely...and maybe move to a different program if things fall too low......I'm guessing not everyone got that nice letter from Google. I've been using Adsense for about 2 years now (and cashing cheques monthly) and haven't seen a thing from them as of this post... :(

12 Vote(s)
