We certainly exposed enough of them to the show, which is backed by competitor Search Engine Watch. But in light of how much activity SEW staffers have been doing on Sphinn about SES shows lately -- and indirectly through Search Engine Land's SearchCap newsletter -- I wonder if SMX is getting a fair shake in return. In particular, Search Engine Land gave SES London 6 advance mentions so far this year, while SES shows in total had 11. And SMX advanced mentions from Search Engine Watch? Zero. Below, more on this case study, plus I'm curious if people think SEL should expect some degree of equal time.

43 Vote(s)

I'm seeing an increase in "reviews" of paid or premium products and feeling like I want to add a ban to the news guidelines about these. But then again, there might be good reasons why people want to read reviews of this nature. So, I'm looking for some guidance.

18 Vote(s)

I'm considering adding to the news submission guidelines something that says not to submit stories saying you are offering a prize, doing a poll or having something in the works so watch soon. I think these tend not to add value and have the potential to overwhelm actual news stories. What does everyone think.

29 Vote(s)

I know at least 12 of you so far have used the Sphinn calendar to say you'll be at SES San Jose. Others? And anyone interested in meeting up? Usually there are "Birds Of A Feather" tables in the lunch area where you make a sign and gather according to groups or forums you belong to. Michelle and I'll grab a table for Sphinners on Tuesday, August 21, if others are game. Sound off!

37 Vote(s)

I have some thoughts on how I'd like to progress with both of these, but I'm looking for feedback. Sound off!

23 Vote(s)

Amazing -- Answers.com issues a press release to advise investor that traffic from Google has dropped 28 percent last week due to an algorithm change. Various issues! (1) Apparently those direct definition links don't bring in much traffic since the release says that 70 percent of the site's total traffic comes from people reaching them directly or searching for "dictionary" (which explains the planned purchase of Dictionary.com even more). (2) Don't build your business to be so dependent on search traffic! (3) What Google algorithm change last week? I don't recall wide reports of this -- instead, was Answers.com itself hit?

29 Vote(s)
