His beginning words... "Search engine optimization (SEO) has turned into a big business, and from what I can tell it’s the modern version of snake oil. The unproven nonsense spewed by so-called "SEO experts" simply doesn’t work. And worse, it’s screwing up the elegance of the Web."

wow... He blames his navigation structure for a decline of pageviews... It couldnt dare be the content, where the site is positioned at any one time, or 100 other factors...Then when his site cant rank on a competitive keyword because of his "expert" use of meta tags (READ he messed with the keyword tag and not a proper wordpress plugin mind you) he blames it on the "snake oil"... It’s BLATANT ignorance of the worst possible kind. It’s the old rule, when you don’t have the ability to understand something, for whatever reason, you mock it and try to devalue it... It’s really sad.

Yes really sad knowing he is kinda mocking his own credibility. Writing without proper research.

@jmaulson - sorry, but Dvorak is a bit to ignorant to actually know what link bait is.  He doesn’t know a lot of thimgs, likea basic 301 redirecthow to use wordpresshow many people "claim" to work for Googleread a webmaster guideline that is freely availablemillions of pages online for basic seo guidelinesthis kind of ignorance from a supposed tech guy is just loathesome

@robert.garcia - what are you sorry about? I like the guy and think he is smart enough to ’know better’ than what you find in this particular post. Also, Jill has a good comment on it here http://sphinn.com/story/100682#c63028

@jmaulson - I will definetly check it out the thread. I’m sorry that Dvorak is purports to be in the tech field, and his article is representing an ignorance of something that is very easy to find.  Look, I don’t do seo professionally; I don’t run an seo company, and I agree that there are SEO’s out there that make the profession look bad, but this article isn’t talking about bad seo’s.  This article is talking about a lack of due dilligence, and the lack of knowledge of the very basics of seo.  He is the site owner, not the SE’s.  I, as a site owner, have to do the same work that he does.  He’s crying foul for something I had to learn as well.  His problem, not Search Engine Optimization in whole as he bashes it.  He’s doing his readers a diservice.
