We run into this problem all the time...people who want to get some information and think they can run with it. Sure, they can. And an hour of instruction in soccer will also teach them how to play soccer. If all you want to do is play SEO, why not take a few tips and run with it. But if you want to win at SEO, you need to hire a team that has the skills, the training, the practice, the equipment, the motivation, the intangibles...just like any winning team in any other sport. Poor Mr. Dvorak should get a few running tips then try to break into the Olympics.
Amen, David! :) By the way, I read a blog post on fixing my brakes earlier and did it this afternoon. I hope none of you are in front of me on the way home, but when my brakes fail, Im TOTALLY blaming the writer of the blog post. If he knew what he was talking about when he suggested resurfacing my rotors...I used 100 grit sandpaper, and I can assure you the surface I ended up with looked a hell of a lot different than the surface I started with. What? You mean that wasnt right...STUPID MECHANIC!
Great post! Just another example of a mainstream journalist doing himself a disfavor by opening his mouth and revealing just how unqualified he is to do his job.
I dont think it is so much a case of a mainstream journalist doing himself a disservice as it is about using industry bloggers to drive additional traffic to the article by ranting about it. Matt makes the point here: http://www.seo-honolulu.com/articles/corporate-bloggers-show-us-the-dirty/2009/02/And I, of course, had to comment that its a two way street that bloggers travel, as well. :)
This wasnt quite the article I was expecting from my skim read of the title and the comments :-) I enjoyed it though, it was quite constructive given the provocation!
Glad you enjoyed it, KDye. :) I had to come up with a title that coincided with his original title. And believe me, it wasnt easy to be constructive. The first few titles and versions of the post werent so constructive. HAHA!
Hey Aly, make sure not to fall for the "SEO is bullshit" link bait trap: Use a nofollow on that crap article.
Youve been officially punked: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAWDYaWAVQQ
I had a feeling that it was linkbait but that didnt stop me from running with it on my own blog. LOL. This was an excellent article about the situation, BTW. Very well put. I like seeing the different ways everyone counters Dvorak. I cant wait until he posts that article that changes his position about how all SEOs are incredible God-like knowledge bases. Hehehe. j/k
Im not falling for any trap, nor have I been punked. There is a reason it remains a follow link and that the anchor text is "ignorance". :)And youre right - guys like him tend to flip-flop back and forth like Dan Dierdoff throughout the course of a football game, "Hes still among the best in the league..."; cut to an hour later, "Hes not the player he once was..." Huh? Im confused...
@SEOAly - LOL! That comment made me spit out my Pasta Salad. Being from New England, I get the pleasure (cue sarcasm) of having to listen to Dan Dierdoff quite often and once I realize he will be calling the game, I instantly hit the mute button......
@MinutemanSEO - glad you liked that. And I hope you didnt spit pasta salad into your computer. Id feel bad. ;) I also must mute Dierdorff. I just cant take it.
