I think yahoo site explorer can help in identifying right key words, search for your competitors and check what keyword they are using, let the others do the hard work.

To me Google Adowrds does give a insight of the keywords and also a bit of competitor analysis and their websites in addition to our own ideas on the targeted keywords would help greatly
