Great news for people who are concerned about privacy. To keep ISPs and other third parties from capturing the data, they should allow https access, which would also allow them to know someone didnt want their searches logged and eliminate the need for a cookie. They might also consider allowing Russ Jones suggestion for #privacy or some other key in the query to indicate that the user didnt want the search logged. Of course, if the user clicks on a PPC ad, they need a mechanism to prevent click fraud.
And for a bit more information on this topic, TechCrunch has a bit on Ask and other engines response to privacy concerns. http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/07/22/privacy-is-the-new-black/
Yep, Im one of those concerned about Googles apparent lack of concern about privacy. Maybe Google will eventually support some way to set privacy settings, too. We can only hope... ;-)
