I'll mention this here since SEOs should be aware. I have experienced a couple of these sites "turning off" free listings when small business owners turn down saleperson requests to advertise in print and/or online directories. Rather shady practice IMO.

The first time we placed a client on YellowPages.com it caught us somewhat off guard -- they looked up our client, and started calling them repeatedly, attempting to get them to spent a few thousand extra to SEO the site. (Which almost derailed that project until we explained the situation in a more technical manner to the client.) We were more than a little irritated with these people. Needless to say, these days if we feel the need to list them there we tell them upfront these people will call and to just hang up on them and ignore everything they say.

For future warning....
