Great article in today’s NewYorkTimes leans heavily on Danny Sullivan quotes. Worth the read as our community’s view of Google & search engines bubbles up mainstream. Cool!

Antitrust issues are very muddy waters for me. When I think about the proceedings with Microsoft in the past and all the negative connotations the term "monopoly" denoted then, I don’t see Google in that same light.PCs literally left novice users with no choice but to use Windows, Office, etc. - Google, however, isn’t always the default on most machines. In fact, given the continued prevalence of Windows and IE (which have easy access to MSN/Live Search, naturally), and the fact that people cling to their Yahoo mail accounts from years past, folks have just as much opportunity to choose and use the other two major engines. Google just plain has a better brand. Not only that, but I think Google is driving other engines, and search in general, to greater heights. The relevance and context you get from a search on any of the big 3 has improved vastly over the last 10 years because Google has driven the innovation so greatly.I think to go after Google is to hurt the industry as a whole right now. Especially in such bad economic times, we can’t afford to lop the legs off the giant in the search and search marketing realm and hope to be better for it.Just my two cents.

Not a bad article.  At least it didnt try and destroy the concept of SEO or say it was worthless.

I don’t ignore Google but I try to use alternative services as much as possible.EX. Browsys search platform  gets good results and seems to go deeper on some keywordsThe way Google treats its customers (publishers and advertisers) is ridiculous and I deeply resent it even when I’m handling them over the money.Alex
