Ive been thinking about this problem too recently. We run a shop for domains and due to limitations in the software, were unable to handle multiple currencies on one site. Ideally wed like to match the currency with the visitors to give them a better experience. So were looking at putting the pound sterling version of the shop on UK and the USD one on COM. Problem is of course with duplicate content between the shops. Its easy enough between our COM and RU shops, as their is an obvious language difference but between English language sites the distinction is not so clear cut. Were going to localise the language for British English and make some content changes and see how that goes (with local link building). As many of the Tweeters said, I guess it all comes down to whether you need/want a separate UK and US presence?
