Well, EU is a very popular keyword related to one of the largest unions in the world. It will be hard for a small town/village to appear even in the first 3 pages for keywords related to Eu.
Very interesting
Intersting topic.. I have never heard of the town myself, but would changing its name really make it easier to find? How will those that tried looking for it in the past even know that the name had changed since that time.. especially since they wont see it on google either.
How about calling yourself "Romantic French City With Nice Hotels, Restaurants, Baguette and Brie" works great for your title tag too ;)
OK how about PPC? There are plenty of PPC ads on EU Hotels that refer to this specific town. Priceline has got it. I deal with this issue all of the time with clients. Use PPC. They will spend 1000 Per year to recapture the 20K in lost revenues.
Maybe they should see what they already rank #1 for, and change their name to that. Problem solved!
Wow. I agree its a good idea. What is not a good idea, in general, is to announce what you think would be good names, before you register the .com versions yourself.
I think this is one case where maybe SEO is having too much influence on the world. Re-naming your town?! Seriously?
