Well, you can’t pull the plug from link marketing. Ever. Link marketing is, like most other activities, an on going process in stead of a temporary campaign. Although it may seem like you should reach a finish line somewhere, your link race track is evolving continuously. Not only do new websites show up, but you also have to keep an eye on your competitors.

There’s a bit of a fallacy with the idea that ongoing effort needs to be spent on link building rather than overall promotion of content where linking is but one benefit, not the sole goal.

It’s a good pointer - algos change, competitors change gear, old opportunities die away and new ones appear.

It would be nice to think that there comes a point that the links you have generated send enough traffic that link generation then becomes a true organic process - but I think this would be a rare beastie and only at very high traffic levels. :(
