Sphinn Home » Link Building
Being a popular topic at SMX Social Media last week, Eric Lander takes a dive into link bait.

Here, Lander provides us with three solid steps to creating link bait. It's a great primer for those just getting involved with link building and baiting efforts.

Great article.  One thing that's missing I think is average cost.  I'm sure it varies like anything else, but I'd be interested to know what a review will cost me on average.

Hugh, I apologize for not covering the monetary aspect of things with this post.  When it comes to link bait, I'm referring to content that can be used on Digg, Reddit, Delicious, etc. to gain viral appeal and attention.

Cost is not a factor because you shouldn't be paying for links from your link bait.  The whole jist of LB is that you create it and others want to link to you beacuse of the content -- not what you're willing to pay them for it.

Some Search Marketing firms charge anywhere from $100 to $200 a pop for links from 'authorities.'

Link bait can result in hundreds of links for one project, usually between $1,000 and $5,000. That's link bait which follows the route of brainstorming, conceptual, writing, publishing correctly, and marketing. Do the math, and even a successful $5,000 linkbait project will result in links for less than $20 a pop... if successful :)
