I really liked this post, nice take on the industry.
an excellent article! I was suprised that TechCrunsh made $280,000 a month!!! woooooah!
Sorry, but blogging offers maximum cost and minimal benefits for most. Cost in terms of time, and minimal benefits because few people are in the right place to catch a big wave, or as well connected as Arrington. Promoting blogs as some kind of "get rich opportunity" I think is outright disinformation - which is why I just junked a string of "learn to blog your way to cash" posts from a forum I was just surfing before here.2c. :)
@iBrianI dont think I promoted them as a "get rich opportunity" and the article actually focused on the non-monetary benefits of blogging. Did you read it? Not everyone can make upwards of $100K a month but a few thousand for a regularly maintained flagship blog is not that difficult. Time costs are involved in EVERY online business, blogs are no exception. Heck, you can even make a few thousand from a regular blog without heavy traffic or readership through a plethora of heavy paid posting through networks like PPP.
I didnt mean you personally - youre obviously developing a very serious site, and dealing with the issue intelligently. What I mean is that there is a huge market for people looking to earn millions sat doing nothing, and Ive noticed a lot of "a blog will make you rich" pitches in this area. So, yes, being remarkable can make for a good publishing strategy, but the idea of equating "blogs" with "rich" just kind of gets my hackles up. :)
