#TweepMe = Twitter Virus in Disguise That is exactly how #TweepMe behaves. I’ve got a live feed right now for the #TweepMe promo verbiage and it is hitting the Twitter Search Timeline at a rate of 3-5 per minute on average. It is an absolute plague right now for Twitter. As responsible marketers, we should ensure that these types of #CrapApp’s never see the light of day. Twitter, I say you ban their API access along with the @bobbr account. The @TweepMe account was banned earlier today right before my very eyes. That was way cool of @Twitter. How about getting to the root of the problem too. :)

Agreed, I keep getting the fail whale because of the amount of traffic that is duplicated because of it, I hope twitter doesn’t DDOS itself because of one person..

The output of 5000 twitter conversations each cross-posted to 5000 other users?Even at only 140 characters a go, that’s some chunk of bandwidth!... and when it gets to 50000, it will be a stream of data so fast that no-one in the group will be reading any of it - just machines talking to machines, burning bandwidth and fossil fuels.

In the last few minutes all my comments with #tweepme in the message have disappeared from my own timeline.Looks like Twitter might be having a mass-delete of all that traffic (or else the fail whale is back).

TweepMe and GetSatisfaction Your replies here at GetSatisfaction may help also. This person needs to be permanently banned from Twitter. They actually stepped up the promo to offer a free lifetime subscription to the first 5,000 signups. It was 1,000 earlier today. Then Twitter banned the @TweepMe account. Not long after, @boobr (http://twitter.com/bobbr) decided to crank things up a bit.http://getsatisfaction.com/tweepme/topics/tweepme_a_twitter_virus_in_disguiseIf you really want to see how damaging this has been for Twitter, follow this search. Just click the link below and leave the tab open. Twitter Search is realtime so you’ll see the results continually light up with new #TweepMe references. The thing is growing like a cancer.http://Search.Twitter.com/search?q=%23TweepMe

Want to make it big on Twitter? Develop a #CrapApp that goes against the grain. That is exactly what this @boobr (http://Twitter.com/bobbr) did. I’ve had a feed for the #TweepMe Hash Tag which is a common footprint of this Twitter Twojan. All of those who have signed up since its release are just now realizing what they may have done. http://search.twitter.com/search?q=tweepme search is abuzz with all the latest. And get this, the guy set the app up so when you sign up, it sends a promo Tweet to the Timeline. I have a tab open with a real time search going and the damn thing stays lit up 24/7 right now, that is how severe this thing is.I’m a bit surprised that Twitter folks haven’t stepped in further. They’ve already suspended the http://Twitter.com/TweepMe account but they’ve not shut down the API calls, I’m hoping that is next.

10-12 #TweepMe promos now per minute. Twitter, the cancer is growing. Like I didn’t have better things to do today other than monitor some #CrapApp on Twitter. I’m actually getting ready to sign up and document the entire process for me article.Twitter, I’d say you have a growing problem. It appears that the #TweepMe Hash Tag has been nixed from Trending, I haven’t seen it appear once. And, based on my feed for TweepMe results, it would have surely made it to the Trending list yesterday. Today the number of #TweepMe promos is far greater than yesterday. The damn thing is growing by leaps and bounds.http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23TweepMe^ 34 new entries since I wrote this reply. It’s a Twitter Twojan!

Yep. The signups continue unabated, but quite a few people are now regretting it once they see how much data arrives: what the tweets from several thousand people actually looks like.I see quite a bit of dissent in the stream along with the odd person that understands that they handed their login details to some completely unknown third party. Maybe this will make a few people a bit more aware of what they are doing online, and just stop and think before hitting the ’signup’ button next time.

Umm. Twitter could easily send an email to all of the people that signed up and give them a warning email.http://www.tweepme.com/browse.aspxIt wouldn’t take much to make a crawler and grab their user id’s and then email all of them in one swoop. We will see what twitter does...

@AlohaArleen with 55k Followers is now promoting the #TweepMe #CrapApp to her Following. This should get rather interesting before the day ends. If her Followers take her advice, the Twitter Search Timeline is going to be an absolute mess. Not to mention what is happening with Following/Followers ratios throughout the Twitter network. I’m calling it a Twojan. Look at all the Sheeple as they say...http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23TweepMe"We will see what twitter does..."Since there has been no app intervention, I’m guessing either this is okay or Twitter is watching the progression and doing what they can to prevent this from happening in the future? They nixed the TweepMe account. The creator now has a Tweep_Me account going. I would guess a massive "Block this Person" campaign would cause that account to go AWOL too. ;)http://Twitter.com/bobbr < 24 year old marketing genius? Or FAIL?

Interestingly, many of the usual ’Social Media Elite’ seem to have been rather on the quiet side while all this was going on.I’m not sure what to make of that. Endorsement? Wonderment? Waiting to see how it plays out? But surely not disinterested?

@g1smdDon’t forget. Spammers aren’t computers. They are people. People who set up a script, or harvested emails, or w/e but behind it all, is a pesron. A person who’s trying to make money at whatever cost. A person who is motivated by money/green and not people. So, I wouldn’t make much of a big deal about it. It’s life. It happens. As for us REAL organic, grassroots marketers, we are here to stay. :)

Not seeing #TweepMe in their timelines. That is why there is a disinterest at the moment. I don’t think many of our Following/Followers are going to fall prey to a #CrapApp like this. I’m sure many are amused at you and I for wasting our time with it. :)Let me finish my article. Maybe that will spark an interest after they see how this app was designed and how freakin’ brilliant this whole campaign really was from a marketing perspective. It failed miserably from all other avenues. I’ll tell you what, I think all this was in favor of #TweepMe, we shall see. And, based on Twitter’s actions to date, I’m going to assume that these types of applications are acceptable use of their API. If that is the case, this will surely set the precendent moving forward and Twitter will surely suffer from allowing this type of stuff to proliferate on their platform. A bit too much openess if you ask me.All those TweepMe users can be happy that I am not a Twitter Executive. I would have had my Twitter Executive Dashboard open and probably suspended most of the herd. I have all the users who signed up. I was fortunate to set up a feed right when that schmuck launched. Plus I have all the freakin’ #TweepMe references that started from his Tweet forward. It was actually pretty genius if you’ve followed even a sample of what I have.

@StephenFry says "Hope none of you fall fallen for @TweepMe" < This guy has 314,755 Followers. Add that to @mashable’s 256,594 and that totals 571,349 Twits who are now seeing the fall of a Twitter Spam Application. That’s a lot of viewers. For those of us who may be developing Twitter Applications, this is surely an experience worth the investment in time.http://twitter.com/mashable/status/1338963540http://twitter.com/stephenfry/status/1345128084

TweepMe - Twitter Self Replicating Human Virus I’ve finished up my coverage of this one. Been watching it now for almost 48 hours and will continue to monitor rest of week.http://www.SEOConsultants.com/twitter/tweepme/Heh! 3 new TweepMe Registrations hit the Twitter Search Timeline while I was replying to this topic.

The deluge started not much more than 48 hours ago. Twitter search showed #tweepme traffic as quite large at that time - auto tweets from each new signup.About 36 hours ago, the numbers per minute were huge and growing fast.About 24 hours ago, there were a few dissenters in the stream, and ’recommendations to avoid’ were posted by heavy hitters such as @stephenfry and @techcrunch (amongst others), totalling half a million followers, but still a huge number of signups.About 12 hours ago, there were more dissenting voices in the stream, and at times, this was hitting nearly 50% of the traffic. Now, the channel is mostly full people saying to avoid this service. The number of new signups has dropped to zero after the announcement that all 5000 spaces had been filled. There’s a lot of people that say they have unsubscribed, and changed their Twitter password on the way out too.
