Patrick Altoft reports that the 3-digit set of random numbers is no longer required for Google News as long as you are generating a news sitemap for them.

Nick, great find! I’ve been posting links to those Google News docs for quite some time in reference to date based URIs. Google has been working hard to provide a variety of ways to present data to them. I’m finding all this Web 2.0 stuff to be full of back doors, side doors, windows, attics, basements, etc! That whole RSS/RDF thing is pretty awesome too.Sitemaps. I would think that is pretty much a given these days. It enforces the architecture of the site at a higher level. :)

Yep useful info from Patrick as always. Getting your feed picked up by Gogle news has an awesome effect on the traffic. As I explain to my girls here, link building 2.0. is connecting up more aggregators for our RSS feeds. Some people still don’t get the potential of RSS as a news distribution method.The Google News SiteMap Generator plugin has just become an essential install
