According to Lisa Barone, you can get more than just links from social media. You can also get really great content. And one of the best places to find free content is on Flickr.

Blind Sphinn! Yes, I did it, I just clicked that Sphinn button first and read later. Why? Because I know that Nick Wilsdon is going to take the time to read what he is submitting and make sure that it is of good quality for Sphinn. He’s not going to just read the first 140 characters and pull the trigger. And then of course we have an article at SearchEngineLand by Lisa Barone. That is 3 + points in the mix and why I was able to Blind Sphinn this one. I did read the article too. I like those long juicy ones. I prefer substance. Nice read.

If people take the time to really flesh out the pictures they find into a really meatty resource, I think they’d be surprised at how well this method works.

Yep it looked like a good technique, I’ve scanned it now and bookmarked to study later. Unlike some other topics recently submitted on here and desphunn, it has the ability to create themed, non-spammy links which actually benefit the content producers. Thanks for sharing Lisa/Rae.

Agreed Nick. Everybody wins from Lisa’s technique, it’s all about sharing content and building something greater than the sum its parts. It’s a high quality post and deserves to be on the front page, regardless of who wrote it and where it’s hosted. MOAR like this!

Nick - great submission!  Lisa wrote a great article.  Definitely learned something new here. I agree with andymurd above - these are exactly the kinds of submissions that are helpful here.

That’s a great example of relationship building. Definitely a strategy I could easily apply & would work well in my niche.

Thanks for the detailed post and examples, too many times posts are vague generalities. I can actually USE this. Lisa, keep up the good work-

Great idea. I normally use Flickr just for storage and a bit of marketing the pics. I will have to try this.

This is a classic example of building rapport and relationships within a site’s niche leading to high quality, and potentially high volume, natural links - and more importantly, real traffic from the site’s target audience.  If people would stop focusing on all the link building "tricks" and ways to inflate inbound links from useless sources in an attempt to manipulate algorithms, we’d all be better off in the long run.

I’ve been always borrowing Flickr CC Photos for my posts just for eye chatch purpose, but never thought about writing a story using photos and leave a comment to the photos. This is really a great way to build relationships within my niche as everybody says. This method will be one of my online marketing routines.

I’ve been using Flickr for a short time and have been amazed at how easy it is to build a following! Comment on someone’s picture or add them as a contact and they’ll almost always add back. Nice article Lisa. I was just looking for free or Public Domain artwork on deviantart.com but Flickr might work too.

Great post. I wish we could get more of these "case study" type posts on sphinn.

Pure gold on this one. It’s perfect because people who are passionate about photography are probably passionate about what they took that picture of and are willing to share it on your site.

I like that the post included case studies, to many articles are done without imperical data and are just intuation based.
