Tons of people have been using the Digg shout it feature lately. Some Digg users consider the shout out feature to be the most effective way to get a story on the Digg homepage. Others, however, feel that it's nothing more than an easy way to spam others.

Here is how what you need to know to use the feature effectively.

Anyone have theories as to whether the number of friends you have will impact the number of diggs required to get to the front page?

Neil, with all due respect, I totally disagree with you on using the shout feature at all. ;)

I know that people are clearly (though not admittedly) burying any shouts they see on other people's walls, even if it isn't directed to them. They'd have no clue if you've only shouted once or if not.

Understandably, people are shouting stories because it exists for a reason, but truthfully, I think it's a system that, if encouraged, is easily abused -- or at least, others may feel that way.

(That is a very long sentence.  Sorry.) :)

I've gotten some shouts on Digg from my friends here on Sphinn but it's really not necessary since I check friend activity several times a day. Nearly all of the shouts I receive from people I don't know on Sphinn look rather spammy and are increasingly getting ignored.

Just as a quick update, the shout it feature now goes out to all friends when you use the "send to all friends".

Not sure tamar, I know tons of people who have used it... including me. Everytime I do it with stuff I want to go to the homepage it works. I have had a 100% success ratio so far with the shout it feature.
