Another blogger outs an SEO secret.

How should search marketers behave on their blogs, and for that matter, on conference panels, in bars and anywhere else we come into contact with an audience?

Are there ethics? Are certain topics taboo? When is sharing a secret okay? Are there times when breaking the rules is the smart thing to do?

Personally, I like firing squads, but a good burning at the stake always fills the town square.

I’m not sure there are any seo secrets, magic pills, or formulas.

There’s a big difference between sharing knowledge and giving away secrets. Newbs (not that I’m a seasoned veteran with only 24 years on this Earth) tend to give away everything to get "cred" in the scene.  Sad thing is this industry isn’t about how many people follow your twitter feed.  It’s about getting results, not just networking and strutting your stuff. My goal with blogging is to open a discussion about how to effectively do our jobs.  This involves talking about non-specific techniques and general concepts, not outing people and loopholes.  That’s the only way to guarantee you won’t last long as a professional.*End Rant*

We’re discussing links. There are no rules when it comes to this area. Maybe an oversight on the developers part and surely something on G’s radar right now. Or will be. Twitter got pressure after it was blogged that Twitter Profile links were DoFollow. They are now NoFollow which they should have been from the beginning to avoid the fuss. There are so many other ways that Twitter and FB content get indexed. One thing I learned years ago is that you DO NOT write about links in this industry. It is the worst subject to write about and will surely put a big red target on your arse. I would never write an article that discusses links from this type of perspective. They FAIL every single time.
