So admit it... how many of you still look at that little green bar and think "links" = "PageRank"? Well - that may be... but "Links" is not equal to "Little Green Bar" as this article demonstrates.

Linkscape looks prettier :)In terms of raw data, the sources I’ve used are much stronger - but wielding such data needs one heck of a disciplined mind! (So I have Barrie for that, otherwise I try to cut corners). In terms of the analysis, we get the same conclusion on Linkscape:Evilgreenmonkey gets a mozrank of 4.49, from 108 domainsDixonjones gets a mozrank of 4.31, from 23 domainsJanecopland (as with some of my data) is too new to rank.So whichever way you dice it, you get to the same conclusion... Although Jane commented that it’s just because she’s a black hat... so "bait and switch" comes to mind :)

So let me get this straight: TBPR is deceiving because1) EGM has more links than Jane but has lower TBPR2) EGM has more root domain links than JaneWow.. Sure TBPR is inaccurate but those reasons aren’t why. First of all internal PageRank isn’t just about number of links. PageRank is calculated by looking at both the quality and quantity of links. That’s SEO 101. So who the fuck cares if EGM has more links? The same argument applies to root domain links. Google doesn’t calculate PageRank by just counting the number of root domain links to EGM’s site.Let’s take page A and page B of equal raw PageRank. Page A’s got 1000 unique links on it and links to EGM. Page B’s got 10 unique links on it and links to Jane. Let’s say both are root domain links. Who do you think will end up with more link juice?

Hmm. Ok - thanks for the colourful language, Halfdeck, but I’m not sure you read the post. Looking at the snippet at the top, Sphinn ssems to have dropped the "not equal to" symbol between the words "Links" and "Little Green Bar".<div><div>The article says ToolBar PageRank is not all about the number of links. That’s what you reiterated in your comment.<div><div></div><div></div></div></div></div>

"The article says ToolBar PageRank is not all about the number of links."Let me re-read the title. Oh ok. The post title says "Why the PageRank Toolbar has Little to Do with Links" followed by "Everyone assumes that green line is all to do with backlinks. Rubbish."That *kinda* reads like "why TBPR is all about backlinks but not about the NUMBER of backlinks." I get it now. Thanks for the clarification.
