"This morning I set Outspoken Media up with it’s own URL ’shortening service’ so to speak and Lisa thought you guys might want to know how I did it. With all the talk of Tweet-Jacking and concerns regarding the branding you’re doing for URL shortening services instead of yourself, it only makes sense to create your own internal URL shortening service if at all possible."

I need to add Jake’s URL Shortener to the list too. He’s worked hard to perfect it and the author of the Plugin is also keeping on top of Jake’s progress. I’m happy to see the wake up call and hope to see URL Shortening services fade away into Internet history. Along with those millions of links out there that will be borken in the process! Create Your Own Short URL and Keep the Branding to Yourselfhttp://Sphinn.com/story/108405And, I really wish all of you writing about this would stop focusing on the 30 Character Conversion number. That is not true. I know for a fact that I can push a 76 character URI into the stream without conversion. It is all relevant to the URI construct. http://twitter.com/pageoneresults/status/1291286690http://twitter.com/pageoneresults/status/1516562582

LOL Edward - I’m not technical! The article said easily. As smart as I know your article is, it’s very technical ;-)

I’ll let you in on a few secrets to append your article with. I’ve been using a URI Shortening routine for many years. It just wasn’t called that. We call it rewriting. I’m on Windows (and proud of it) and we’ve been utilizing ISAPI_Rewrite since Yaroslav released the product. It has come a long way and we now have .htaccess files just like Apache! We recommend a Base 36 string /0a1b2c to start with. That will give you billions of combinations that have no semantic value. Not the most optimal from my perspective but it appears to be the common practice right now. I’d go one step further and allow custom URI Shorts. For example, I have a current Real Time Reputation Management Exercise in progress and I now have eight (08) URI Shorts for this one article. It is a stacked article targeting multiple keywords and phrases. I’m using the URI Shorts to provide a "relevant" anchor to the destination. Not only that, I now have multiple relevant anchors to use for my stacked article. Get the picture? I can also recycle my URI Shorts. I need to be extremely careful here and make sure that the timeframes between usage are far enough apart that the 301 is set in stone and hope that most used the PermaLinks provided. Oooh, another tip, when writing your Blog post or article, be sure to provide complete instructions for your PermaLink and your URI Short. Let the user know to only use the Short when applicable and not for PermaLinks. I can always use the recycled URI Shorts and send those to a top level category page with the most recent entry at top, just in case. :)
