Angie: "If you maintain a blog to increase your ratings and situate yourself as an industry leader, don’t focus on advanced techniques and industry news. You will attract lots of attention from other SEOs in your industry, but chances are high that your target clients aren’t going to understand or be interested in this type of information."

She has a good point there. On the other hand, maybe covering the basic basis stuff repeatedly is a turndown for clients too? They might get the impression the company is in its infancy?Maybe each post shoudl have a color code, as Jeff Quipp once suggested, to indicate its difficulty level and whom it most applies to.

I like that idea. Even clients may be beyond beginner level.

That’s an excellent point Ruud (and Jeff may very well be on to something). Personally, I would recommend not focusing purely on SEO topics, but how your clients can improve that. Just off the top of my head, what about recommendations for better content, how to attract attention with your content, how to use analytics to improve conversion, marketing, etc. You can tie them back to SEO and how you help your clients. Think of it as a supplement. One site I can think of at the moment who does this is http://www.seocontentsolutions.com/blog/ They focus on how their clients can gain attention rather than going back over the same old tips and techniques.Instead of focusing on SEO education, I am suggesting SEO companies answer questions clients would have about traffic and conversion. Looking at places such as business forums and even correspondence you have had with previous clients. These resources are a gold mine when it comes to getting to know your clients and their needs.Angie

At SEOPeople we’ve incorporated actual questions and cases brought up by clients, especially as we found ourselves explaining  some issues time and time again. Here’s one I wrote re. site changes and fluctations in ranking afterwards: http://cli.gs/Dsy8pEI think I like to be Oliver Sacks. Build bridges; show what goes on truthfully without being oversimplicticIt’s certainly a change you’ll see continue at SEOPeople, that;s for sure..
