Google, has always merged some business records inappropriately based on address & phone similarities but they are now merging LBC claimed listings of nearby competitors based on a new algo that has been released. Time to fix unkown!

Jill -This isn’t the same article. Matt and Mike’s articles are both worth sphinning, in my opinion, as the knowledge of each is worth a read for anyone in Local.

Excellent article -- thanks for letting me know I’m not the only one with this problem.Edit: apologies to the above commenter, I accidentally hit "minus" when I meant to hit "plus" and now I can’t change it -- I agree that both articles are worth reading and sending to the front page of Sphinn.

@Webmastertips Merging of competitors is problem. It isn’t clear exactly how widespread it is. I appreciate the nod.  <div></div><div>@Jill I too see the articles as distinct, Matt’s more of an opinion piece and mine dealing with the technical & factual side of merged records. </div>

@mblumenthalThis is definitely happening.  Google fixed one listing, but then merged them again.  If Google can’t fix it right away, they should pull the business listings out of the SERPs.
