I first read about this competition on Mashable and quickly became interested. If you aren’t familiar with Murphy-Goode, they’re a Bordeaux focused winery in Geyserville, California, established in 1985. Murphy-Goode recently decided to try their hand at PR/advertising via social media, and you may initially think that wine and social media sound like an unusual pairing but it’s becoming more and more popular these days. The success stories are many, like Stormhoek, a South African winery that successfully reached out to the blogosphere in 2005 and entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV, increasing his store’s sales with his video wine reviews. Leveraging social media to promote wine is becoming a winning formula as it has incredible reach potential and is extremely inexpensive when compared to traditional media.
