I try to take the keyword phrase and mix it into an emotional/marketing message. That way you get the best of both worlds, SEO and Real Human Side.
Make sure to remember that blogging is not oly about SEO. Often these best practices will result in awkward over-optimized blogs that lower the user retention and only limit the blog to the sheer SEO functionality.
Id agree with onreact. Optimizing for SEO is important, but remember that readers must come first. If people dont want to read your content, no amount of SEO traffic will help your cause!
Both are equally important. Saying SEO isnt important is like saying your blogs usability isnt important. If people cant even navigate your blog, what good is world class content. I realize that both of you dont bash SEO. However, I have seen some of these new web 2.0 blogger bash it. I find people tend to become too polarized and loose balance. We should coin those kind "fundamentalists bloggers". And they work and live on both sides of our polarized society, caught in the trap of the rich and free :)
Agree that these are great SEO blogging best practices, but some of this might be difficult to follow for bloggers who write for the pure joy of communicating information.
Thanks for all the input, I appreciate you reading the post and taking time to comment.FWIW, the second sentence says "The following best practices are only regarding the Search Engine Optimization reasons for blogging. You may need to weigh these against other reasons you may have for blogging". Hopefully one of those "other reasons" is communication :)
