Google launch a service that they don’t own the brand on, and do you really think this being "open" is for your benefit?

An excellent post, Andy.  It does of course raise the question of how an elephant can move around without crushing small children who may be milling around everywhere.

What I can’t believe is that the signatories of the "Open Social Web" are just ignoring this. One common interface for javascript means it is so much easier for spiders to extract data.We will probably end up with a dedicated "Open Social Spider" (that is my new trademark btw, named after the spiders I breed in my cupboard), and the bugs in my backyard are "Open Social Crawlers"

This to me is a little bit extremist, although I don’t want to say entirely inaccurate.  The fact is (at least to me) the idea behind OpenSocial is quite cool - but the idea of a company answering to investors (even if ridiculous gullible investors on the whole) actually controlling such a platform without a means to monetization is just ridiculous.

It almost seems like Google has been shooting from the him so long that it’s finally starting to build up and they are taking one poor shot after another.
