"Before sometimes we published an article on 70+ Most Useful Mashable Posts for Search Marketers and Developers, which was gone hot over the Sphinn and was very popularise in the SEO industries."Quality Article!
[laughs at the removals of sphinns]dont blind sphinn shit. this is why this place has gone into the shitter.
This had 14 Sphinns before I called it out. Three people desphunn (I tried but it wouldnt go through). Now it has 9 Sphinns.14 - 3 + 11. Unsphinning something because you finally READ it should not be made invisible. Especially when the blind sphinners are Sphinn mods. Lets have some accountability.
ZOMG! Corruption within the Sphinn Mods???? Say it aint so!
I expect a lot more of SEJ posts. This is...just...I dont even know what to say, aside from Im embarrassed for them - and for those who clearly Sphunn it without even bothering to read the first sentence. If you dont have time to read it, dont Sphinn it. The end.
Lisa - KMA. I unsphunn it because I dont recall voting for it in the first place. I doubt anyone hacked my account, so I can only assume I hit the vote button on accident while voting up other stuff in Upcoming earlier. Any other questions, feel free to ask before you start making accusations. Thx.
Matt: I have no idea what KMA stands for. I did ask questions. I didnt know you were the other person who unsphunn the post. I was talking about a Sphinn mod who did admit to me the blind Sphinn. My comment had zero to do with you.
Matt, that being said, it is odd that Moderators desphinns arent public. Is that done on purpose? Was it announced and I missed it?Also, for the record, I still cant desphinn things. That seems odd to me. I tried to see if there was a desphinn option that was available to us non-mods that wasnt public and there doesnt seem to be.
Lisa, KMA = kiss my ass.Edit: thats just an FYI lol.
Skitzzo: I dont think it has anything to do with being a mod or not. Anyone can unsphinn something and it doesnt show up. I happen to think it should. Sure, youll get some false positives like in the case where Matt accidently sphunn something (which I totally believe. I dont think hes lying to me), I just think in general it may prevent situations where people sphinn something and then dont want to defend it when its called out.Desphinns are public, why not unsphinns?
Skitzzo: Ah. Thank you for enlightening me to the colorful language. :)
Am I just not seeing the option to unsphinn something? Edit: Nevermind... found it. That was really out of the way. In any case, yes, I think mods and non-mods alike should have the "unsphins" be public.
It might be my opinion, and I didnt sphinn this yet.. but no one has the right to tell me what to Sphinn or not Sphinn.. If I blind vote for every article on the upcoming page.. it is my right to do so, just like you have the right to desphinn. The wonderful thing about social is that a mass audience of people make those decisions. :)
Youre absolutely right, Brent...you have the right to Sphinn whatever you like - whether youve read it or not. The sad thing is that once people realize you either A) Sphinn stuff blind; B) Sphinn JUST because of where the post is published; or C) Sphinn just because someone asked you to, it cheapens and lessens the credibility of the whole "voting for good content" process.
This one is pretty good, need to be sphinn. Hey every one else i guess doing cat fight.
Note : Yeah, this one fell through the editorial cracks, scheduled without a full review and went live, it happens. Weve published wrap ups of Mashable articles like this before, and even Pete loved it entirely : http://mashable.com/2008/06/23/mashable-hearts-search-engine-journal/GOD FORBID a mistake is made, but thanks for pointing it out. The blog post has been edited with new sub-par Loren grammar.
Ok kids, the post has been edited, and I considered also Desphinning this myself, because yes, I did go on autopilot in this regard. But you know what, I think the list can be useful and will be bookmarking it anyway, so despite the bad grammar, which has now been fixed, going to leave it alone. Thanks for the convo and pointing everything out.
@SEOAly "I expect a lot more of SEJ posts."I dunno. The quality over there is highly variable. This is not the first time Ive wondered about one of their entries.
Ive seen much worse grammar used on posts written by some very popular SEOs actually.
Since when Grammar mistake makes the post less valuable? I just spent a couple of hours going through the list and I find it really cool... And whats blind sphinning? Are you telling me those Mashable posts were crap? Not useful? Whats wrong with you, people?Or are you implying there wasnt much work put into the post?
I like the post and feel the "mistakes" show that the people at SEJ are HUMAN and not droids. Thanks for the compilation of great posts...and YES, before Sphinning I did read the post!
I should Sphinn this by virtue of the commentary. Then again, someone would probably call me out for that ... except I actually read the commentary. And Ann, value or not, its uh, unprofessional of a publication like SEJ which I believe is the sentiment of the other commenters here.
"I was talking about a Sphinn mod who did admit to me the blind Sphinn. "I asked you to make an example of me, Lisa. Be more forthright if youre going to mention it at all.Unsphinns are not the same as Desphinns. If someone accidentally Sphinns something, they are well within their right to Unsphinn it. It doesnt count against the story to Unsphinn it. It simply removes the existing vote. On the other hand, Desphinn is one negative vote; it negates an existing vote, and normally theres a reason someone specifies to Desphinn (like you see with the 3 Desphinns here). Thats why I believe its public whereas Unsphinns are not. The latter removes any involvement on that specific Sphinn (save for comments, if there are any written by that member). Thats why I Unsphunn this.As it is, the Unsphinn utility is heavily underused. I doubt most people even know it exists. In any event, I admit to Sphinning this as an accident blindly. Clearly I should have ignored the Sphinn this button on the SEJ post when Gunjan IMd me yesterday and brought this to my attention. To be honest, besides seeing the title and the Sphinn this button, I saw and read nothing else. Yup, now I said it and you know which mod is accountable. Ill be a little more diligent next time.Lisa made a good point last night. This excellent post by Brian Solis (http://sphinn.com/story/118836) has 2 Sphinns - the submitters and my own. Will it become hot? Im sure it wont because crap frontpages and steals attention from the quality stuff.Something to think about.
@SEOALY I get the point there.. However, I have seen so many really huge publications mispell, publish the same line twice, and even include a paragraph from a different story. This was not an affiliate offer or spam and regardless how you read the intro, the story was 99% about the links it provided. Also if more people took the time to actually vote on content, like they do come to a cat fight, then it would end up canceling stuff out ;)By the way.. for my entire life I will probably say Your instead of Youre.. just because I suck at writing :)@tamar ... sorry but respectfully disagree on professionalism for missing an edit. Even President Obama messing up his oath of office, people make mistakes.
Brent, Im not saying people dont make mistakes. Im saying that the expectations of the publication may shift when they see something like this.
I didnt desphinn because of spelling mistakes. I desphunn because this made no sense to me:"Before sometimes we published an article on 70+ Most Useful Mashable Posts for Search Marketers and Developers, which was gone hot over the Sphinn and was very popularise in the SEO industries. "We get a lot of things submitted to sphinn that are auto generated clearly by non-native speakers looking to spam. Often, they will submit articles from credible domains in building their profile, and then begin hitting us with spam. This fit that profile when I saw it. Then I looked at the piece itself, and it had significant copy issues.I agree that content should be judged on the content itself - and while the aggregated links of the content of what was submitted might have been fine, to say that how it is represented when published (in a summary on its own site) or submitted to social sites is irrelevant, I think is specious.Im happy that Loren commented here and clarified the error, correcting it on their own site. Id be happy to edit the description that was submitted here, so that we dont have undecipherable info on the home page.
I agree with michelle that grammar was not the main issue with the post. And just so Tamar knows, we had that conversation *after* my initial Sphinn comment.
Bookmarked this because it has some useful links all in one place ... which far outweigh the grammar issues.
Everyone that complains about the crap on Sphinn -- please help prevent it. Go to upcoming and desphinn scraped posts from three years ago and lead generation forms, and report the Arizona vacation rental spam. If everyone had to make one desphinn for every five sphinns, the place would either be a lot cleaner, or thered be a lot fewer sphinns.
Sorry everyone for not posting a good description. Will be careful in future. (Also, my choice of category might have gone wrong)@SEOAly Blind Sphinn - I dont do it always. But Sometimes do it when i find the Headline to be good (believing the content to be good too)Sphinning from a Good SEO Site - Not Really, I look for Good content (What looks good for me - May be Crap for others). In fact, I look for Good Content from Not-Popular Guys. Due to my inability to search & find, I had to choose from these popular sites. Will be doing in future.Sphinn just because someone asked you to - I dont do it that way. I look for good content. If I find, I just submit it.@MichelleBuilding my Profile - Yes, Certainly, Thats what everyone does. (Correct me if i am wrong) - How can you assume that since I am No-one, I will spam (in future) & the "credible" guys dont.--Infact, I didnt expect that the article i submit will get so many sphinns, desphinns & lot of talk in my 3rd submit. (A few days back I was thinking - Will I break the record for the Most Desphinns atleast - Maybe possible in future)Thank you everyone.
@morgret I dont think anyone is going to do that because of:1. Fear that their submissions may be desphunn by those, whose articles they desphunn.2. They dont have the time to do that.3. Follow Social Media rules - a) Spinn Good content, b) Make Comments & c) Make friends (No-one taught us the "Desphinn" Rule)Sorry, if i am wrong (& going overboard).
@RDPrem I did not assume (or say) that you were going to spam in the future. I said that your submission fit a recognizable pattern, and I defined that pattern.
@Michelle - Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Wow, it went hot...
@Everyone, we are sorry this caused some arguement in the SEO community. I am a non-English speaker myself and thus feel the pain of those like me. Yes, it was entirely our fault - we were not attentive enough - but I sincerely find the post useful (at least worth a click-through). Also, those accusing users of blind Sphinns, did you read the post just a bit lower than the first paragraph? From SEOAlys Desphinn comment I see some didnt - so who be the judge???
The description doesnt make any sense. Im not sure how this has gotten 14 votes already. The story itself needs editing/rewriting.
Before sometimes we published an article on 70 Most Useful Mashable Posts for Search Marketers and Developers, which was gone hot over the Sphinn and was very popularise in the SEO industries.
Holy craptastic blog post, Batman! I couldnt get past the first paragraph.
