Cant beleive this . I thought it is youngsters who are using these networking sites.
I agree Ann. My mother will be this month 65 years old, and she uses facebook on a daily basis.
I think sometimes we might not give this 55+ generation enough credit, given time, they will also adapt to social networking trends. In general most generations do not sit still, but evolve overtime as their environment changes.
I was at a party over the holiday weekend where the majority of people were in the 45+ age bracket and Facebook was the hot topic of conversation. My parents are 55+ and theyve all recently joined Facebook. I think when the non-tech audience and older generations adopt social media, its truly gone mainstream - youngsters are typically first to bat, so stands to reason that the older generations would be the largest growing segments.
Eclaire, I think you nailed it with your comment. Good Thoughts.
The internet is what? - twenty years old? So the people who have been using it (and making it) for the last twenty years are in their 40s, 50s and 60s. So why is there still an assumption that its a youth medium?Facebook did initially launch itself as that - it was aimed at college kids - so to some users maybe it hasnt shaken that off. But other types of social network - are they all about the kids? Look at the most popular twitterers - in the UK its Stephen Fry - aged 50+.Who else is mega-popular on Twitter- Oprah, Demi Moore, Mc Hammer, Lance Armstrong - theyre not teenagers, I suspect most of their followers arent either.
