At least once per week I get approached by a potential client who wants us to run a pay for performance search engine optimization (SEO) campaign for their site. I always entertain the idea and I unusually try to figure out a model that would make sense for both parties. However, most of the time we decline to take these types of deals…even though the potential upside is huge. I know that Best Rank isn’t the only company that struggles with how to efficiently formulate a pay for performance SEO model...so, I thought I’d throw the discussion out to the community.

You will soon find out that a signed contract is not worth the paper it is written on.

No pay, no game. In todays economy, what right mind fronts for anything? I feel that most performance based SEO agreements are perfect recipe for disaster. These situations allure companies to engage in less than desired techniques to generate needed results in order to stay profitable.

A guy offered me 10% of every sale, if I helped him. He was not selling anything and about to go under. This guy was into debt heavy. I agreed to the deal and got him position one on many of his keywords. Sales started to come in.Then he said that he did not have to pay me. This is because he only paid people if he felt like it and that I was greedy because I wanted 10% and that I was a crook because of expecting him to give me money. He also did not pay the web hosting company. Needless to say, his website is down and he is now making zero sales.
