Yeah its getting crappy. I've been on Google and Yahoo for years but now stopped Yahoo altogether thanks to some scam going on where I was charged like a G one day and got 0 hits. They came up with some BS excuse too saying I needed to check my logs, but have software on the site in question that tells evertything, IP, monitorm Alexa and so on. On one day in particule ( July 31 I believe, I had 1,500 hits from Stumble, 300 from other sources and 1 from Yahoo that i clicked wondering what was wrong. I sent them an e-mail saying they were better than this and asked them to look into it but it seems they were getting many many complaints. So I jsut said adios and dropped them. I just stopped the whole program with them but continued with Google. Even Google though is reducing in response each month though. I think the rise of Stumble Upon, this site and other sites in the 2.0 field and also networkign sites like Facebook or Myspace is helping to diminish the impact of search engine marketing. Plus business owners like myself are getting more knowledgeable. I saw this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOBcXEja_dM and that sort of thing pisses me off. That a company pushed people around as they get bigger. One day very soon perhaps everyone will jsut go to ask.com or even MSN again as I feel less threatenned by Bill Gates than a company that can arbitrarily knock my own sites down - even without selling advertising. By the way my one of my sites was a pr6 before this last update and is currently in top 3 for main search terms, but was reduced to pr 4. Since google ads are the only outbound links I think some of you are off thinking their update was only aimed at those selling links, as my site accepts no advertising. Maybe we can't blame Google for trying to defend what has made them. The video makes that point well. I jsut think they should treat all people equally and luckily for me since I don't accept advertisers on successfuloffice pagerank is irrelevant to me.
Forget PPC, hire a great social media consultant, ;)
Mine has dropped from a few dollars a day to just a few cents.
Now is that CPC? What are your hits like?
