My RSS numbers took a plummet today and at first I was worried until I saw that the numbers of a load of big blogs had dropped - some come on, who broke Feedburner? :-)

Good grab Caroline. Our feed subscription numbers were cut in half overnight. Google is at it again. Either there is a major adjustment or it’s broken. Of course, it could be more funny business like the PR fiasco.

Maybe the sites that are showing a drop in subscribers are suspected of selling links?Since Google owns Feedburner, aren’t they free to report subscriber numbers however they like, just like PageRank?  By devaluing the reported number of subscribers a site has, they decrease incentive for anyone to buy links on the site. (ok, just joking - but is it that far fetched?)

Yet another reason I was dismayed when Google purchased Feedburner.

They probably just removed all of the reciprocal subscriptions to keep people from subscribing to friends feeds to boost the numbers :)

I think google itself is broken. Over the past view weeks they have really messed up the ranking thing. just my opinion but I am sure some of you can relate.

It seems to be just Google that is broken and hasn’t reported feed subscription numbers to Feedburner.

It’ll probably fix itself in a day or two.... it happens at least once every month. Nothing to be alarmed about :)

For a moment I thought my readers were punishing me for the slow posting rate :-)

Update - the numbers from Google Feedfetcher are not being counted. Hopefully it’s just a glitch :) So to answer my question, I guess Google broke it heh!

I saw the dip on Sunday (moreso than the usual weekend dip) but then things recovered today. Hopefully, everyone else bounces back after 24-48 hours, too.
