It seems that making a news article slightly harder to read can lead to a higher click rate on adverts - but only if the advert is not directly related to the news item.Where the advert is directly related to the news article, such as Google Adsense tries to acheive, then the readability of the news story will directly affect how often the adverts are clicked on.It would seem that if running Google Adsense, good content readability will improve click rates. If running non-contextual adverts though, you might do better with "poorly designed" web pages.
