I was fixing a web page for a company. They hated my BIG RED BUY BUTTON. The owner himself designed a tiny button, and in its place they put a small beige button at the bottom of the page. Sales dropped by 50%. The owner was so angry he later fired me. He said that my button with garish and gaudy. OK, that is so very true. I want to sell, not win awards for most pretty button.

This is one thing that most business owners don't understand. Call-to-action buttons should be selected based on conversion rates that can be derived from testing, not based on which one is the sexiest.
