Had to click through just from the title. Made me think of when Louie Anderson was talking about his rise to fast food fame in the movie, Coming to America about how one day he'll make assistant manager :)

It's pretty funny that the blog sale you speak about barely made more than minimum wage.

I highly doubt the blogger put in anything close to 40 hours a week. Sitting around writing blog posts, or standing on your feet all day asking " do you want fries with that" hmmm wonder what Id take

Sure, maybe the blogger didn't put in 40 hours a week. And yes, standing on your feet making minimum wage taking burgers and fries orders sucks.

Still, if you weren't blogging, would you automatically be working at McDonald's? Career aspirations, anyone?

haha the article came from a comment, and i answered it

based on the sale of blogging fingers... blogging makes more than working at mcdonalds. Mcdonalds can be exchanged for anything minimum wage

I could of easily plugged in "top bloggers" like john chow, but we all know they make way more than minimum wage.

If you break down 4 months of work for 6,000$ its easily more than minimum wage..

The problem is that ANY blog that is saleable is not representative of all blogs or even all blogs which were built to sell. 100% of McDonalds burger flippers make at or above the minimum wage. Blogs which generate so much as a single penny of income are the exception, not the rule. Blogs which sell for thousands are the exception to the exception!

Plus, the blog at issue made LESS than the minimum wage if that person fills out his taxes honestly. It is a short term capital gain, which means it gets hit at his marginal rate, with none of the favorable tax treatment available to wages. If he decides to put it on Schedule C, which I think is dubious but I could perhaps see a reason for doing it (it arguably makes the gain earned income, which can be advantageous in some circumstances), he'll lose about 15% off the top to social security tax (McDonalds workers pay half, then McDonalds silently pays the other half for them), THEN get to pay taxes at his marginal rate on whatever is left.

I said this in a comment on the post, but people don't seem to be catching on to how important it is:
"The other big factor is the learning. Ive learned so much and been inspired to do so many more things online. You cannot put a price on that."
