Loren Baker gives some nice tips on SEO friendly domain registration : Don’t block your WhoIs, just register in your DOG’s name, under a Mailboxes Etc. address... and other tips.

Just a note, I’m not saying to make these changes to influence Google, but as an alternative to other reasons you may want to block WhoIs information. Like hiding sites from your boss :)
