Search Engine Land --- Facebook might not be more popular than sex, but its getting there -- at least as a rival to sex as something people search on. Below, a look at Facebooks new entry into a top search terms list and related stats, along the way -- including which country searches for Facebook the most (hint: how about a donut, eh?).

Id totally blame sugarrae for the canada data skew ;-)
Oh, *Im* skewng data? Danny can so literally thank one page view of his article to someone sending me an email entitled: FB, Canada and Sex with a link to his post. Now, thats skewing. ;)
Danny - amazing post. Two things...1. It looks - from the ten thousand foot view - that Yahoo! is steady and "hot" - not in the "steamy" way. 2. I cannot believe my eyes when I see the search volume on MySpace in Google trends. MySpace usability is so HORRID I cannot possibly commit any time to it. Its an affront to all humanity.
Great minds think alike! ;D Your analysis is great -- I just did pretty much the same thing (albeit for different "target audiences" ;) -- see http://itne.ws (much less exhaustive -- I wish I had Dannys stamina ;D):) nmw
"MySpace usability is so HORRID I cannot possibly commit any time to it. Its an affront to all humanity."I fully agree. MySpace popularity is a mistary for me. Many people are simply obsessed with that.
Facebook is so overblown as an advertising location. I have now already used two separate advertising agencies for Facebook ads, and I own call centers, realty companies in NY and NC and a registered agent company in Nevada. Facebook advertising is the absolute lowest return you can get for your money. It really does suck. Everyone rushed to them for their open BS, but now that the rest of the social sites are creating an alliance ( which includes Myspace), with Google running that Open Social, Id say to stay away from advertising on Facebook if you want any kind of ROI. Its all smoke and mirrors as we say in Brooklyn.
