$64,000 question: Do the Google algorithms use concepts (as illustrated in Google Insights) rather than keywords in determining relevance?
Excellent article, well written, and helpful, thank you.
Great article à comments are talking about the semantic web:I don't buy the concept 100% yet
"Concepts" vr "Keywords". Perhaps in the future when artificial intelligences are able to figure out intent and meaning is the day SEO's will be out of work. :-) That will only leave pure marketing and idea people. (Good Lord!) Rejoice bloggers & social media mavens.
Keeping in mind the Google Keyword Tool & the Google Insight Tool, which we all use as SEO's. Was for the Adwords platform. The meat and potatoes of Google.
I disagree that Google is going to mess with its winning formula. Expanded Broad Match or not (GRRRR)! This will upset too many people. If I type into Google:"a device that allows me to experience a simulated computer environment remotely" The concept: Virtual Reality, This will not be the top of the list unless I clue in Google with my browsing history.
The scenario you suggest would create an extreme disconnect between Sponsored Side & Organic Side. Content may be king. But the king eats keywords for breakfast.
The only way you can prove the $64,000 dollar question is take a website without a descriptive keyword name for its domain. Then rank for words related to the subject at hand, without keyword padding (Did I say stuffing!)Maybe someone out there has done this!
Since most our clients would scream, bloody murder. Are you crazy, not with my money or my site! Until somebody can show me the money (1st page ranking). This becomes just another speculation on Google's Kentucky Fried Formula. If you are going to tease us with a new fried chicken from the oven, bring out the proof so we can find out if it actually tastes like chicken. I for one will stick with stuffed turkey (Lightly stuffed keywords - heavy on relevant content!)
