SNIP - Whitehat Automation is a term that, depending on who you’re talking to, shouldn’t exist. To some whitehat is doing everything manually. To others it is staying within the guidelines set forth by the almighty Google. The real question is: where is the line drawn and what can you do/not do? Everyone will have a different answer and view points regarding this question, and especially how it’s done.

The concept of automation is almost the opposite of what SEO is about.  SEO is about being the best for a particular search phrase, not about being like everyone else.  Think of your favorite sport.  There are probably thousands of teams or athletes competing at some level or another.  The ones who earn the trophies are the ones who go past doing things like everyone else.  Add to this that the search engines have a strong incentive to value natural links over those that are created with automation, and I find myself scratching my head every time automation is mentioned.
