If you're under the impression that you control what searchers see in the meta description snippet of your SERP listings, you're living in fantasy land. That's because the snippet you tag to show in the SERPs is often discarded by Google for text more germane to a searcher's query. Time for a Mutany!!

PS: Matt Cutts recently discussed snippets and how Google Reserves the right to alter the title tags as well, you really are at the mercy of Google.

See Article: Title Tags Use Them or Lose Them! on Sphinn (Flagrant Plug!)

So now we have 2 problems to worry about!Your example of Leah Grath Goodman , Pushy Desperate Tacky & Joblesswas the second phrase subhead marked as an H2 tag? - I would bet not!

I bet that would make a difference, worth testing. Now what would be really cool if the Meta Description could be reported to Analytics or a Data Capture tool.If your site was capturing 1000 of natural impressions, you could optimize your meta description in a measured way!But I don't think Google passes this data, so its a moot point.     Searchengineman
