Its funny. About two years ago a vendor wanted to sell me a database that did not use apostrophes. I told him it would screw up my SEO and he did not believe me. I guess it would have helped me rank for typos so he was half-way right.
andrew i think you still made a wise decision. you can always remove apostrophes easier than you can insert them where they are needed. id like to try using no apostrophes in titles and meta data, but keep them in all page copy for readability.
Im surprised that Google allows a laziness of written English to rank more highly than the proper grammatical spelling.I would have thought that the proper term would be surrounded by the variants — such as typos...
