I have been wondering for a while whether the .eu tld I use might be triggering some kind of "never let him on the front page" flag
Andy, possibly. Remember dot com, id the popular one.
The problem for me is that .eu is probably the most legitimate TLD of all because you can't use and privacy whois service... plus I don't own the .com
Andy you do not need to be Digged or Stumbled, think what you say on your blog, other sEO blogs and here, has value for people who are listening.
Who is going to listen to you on Digg? Even if you make top page, do you want them to use up your bandwidth?
I think many of us have a strong punch even if we do not get 10,000 uniques daily.
When we talk, they listen..:)
This is why we have sphinn to make us independent of digg. This is a great alternative to digg, and it is targeted for SEOers. You will be getting bettet eyeballs to look at your site.
Try having the word nude in your domain name. ;)
funny Vanessa, but I have a suspician that your nude site gets a manual HJ - adult pun not intended.
Vanessa darling, I bet you my Travel in Asia site gets more queries for that kind of stuff.
I'll just redirect the nude stuff to you and keep the travelers..:)
Bait and switch, yo!
Vanessa, simply put, you're amazing.
You totally rock.
So which of the following domain names are more likely to get dugg than buried?
- searchengineband.com
- searchenginehand.com
- searchenginemanned.com
- searchenginenanny.com
- searchenginefan.com
- searchenginefanny.com
- searchenginesand.com
- searchenginetanned.com
- searchenginewand.com
- searchenginebland.com
;P nmw
we can also use .org domain
Now that's an idea...
How about .IN ? When I posted recently on radar.oreilly.COM, Mr. O'Reilly was confused by the domain name (registered under .IN) and therefore deleted all of my posts.
Does that reflect badly on me or on the domain name or on Mr. O'Reilly? (I guess everyone needs to decide this for themselves) see also http://www.aboutus.org/Oreilly.com#Additional_Information
Forgetting Digg for a moment.
Using a topical TLD is like dressing for an occasion.
I absolutely steer my own firm's marketing efforts using names. It makes a big difference. I have a whole suite of domains that I vary depending on marketing efforts. I have several old-crusty core names for SEO (upon which I accumulate page rank,) and the others are for ppc, email, and blog commenting where crawling isn't a factor.
I've not done the specific analytics but my feeling after doing it is that when I use my topical names I can dramatically improve response rates, opens, CTR, and link aquisition. Possibly double, even triple response rates in some audiences.
Explaining this to clients, however, is harder.
I wouldn't rely too much on any single machine -- that might begin to look like AOL (in which Google acquired a 5% stake in Dec 2005).
( BTW: the transparency which Google appears to have lost sight of has not been banned from the Internet -- you should be well aware that everything about all of your domains are easily known to anyone who might care :)
