Our newest author, Justin Parks (of Cloud Mixer) laments the crap that is the eBook world of SEO advice these days. Sure, we could hit hundreds of 'em, but one will do for now. An area that I am sure pisses a lot of us off! Enjoy! (want to write for SEOBS? Get in touch)

Ha ha... excellent post!

"Analyse your site and fix all those SEO problems in seconds with one click and see your site at number one for some obscure keywords that no one ever types, but h--! At least it looks good!"

:)

Thanks Jesper, was nice to get it of my chest!

Its so true though, and Im so sick of it.  I really cannot believe that people still fall for this type of "quick fix and easy money" crap in this day and age and for any type of business, not just SEO or the internet in general.  Makes me wonder if evolution is not in reverse right now...

Yes... I call what we offer "the inbetweens", ie. the stuff that for some reason doesn't have a home in the corporations organization scheme. The marketing department should be interested, but as the valuable effect is measured in sales rather than impressions, the KPI falls on the sales department. Also, as it is communication that people react to and republish (at best :D LINKS).. the PR department feels like they need control, but they don't speak our language. The result being the marketing director buys a book of "100 One click measures to #1 in Google", the sales director claims SEO is useless as the traffic don't return on investment like "the banners" (yes, I've actually heard someone say that) and the PR department sues people for linking.

SEO isn't long term in most verticals (there is still a highway to the top for converting keywords in soo many verticals), but it sure as h-ll is strategic as you have to know what you want, then you need to work systematically towards that goal. The problem... SEO has become an inbetween issue that only on rare occations finds its right home...

haha... I guess I had a bit to get off my chest as well..

Cheers,
