Thanks for the Sphinn bartimus!
I love reading how you disected their SEO. Good tactics.
This post literally put some valuable info in my head right when I needed it. I work for a web based lead provider that onced ranked very well for state and city level searches. One of my objectives next year is to reclaim lost ground. I will definitely be a regular reader of your site from now own. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Ken. bartimus send me a link to your site and Id be happy to take a look under the hood.
"Theoretically this page should do well for searches for “Atlanta restaurants” although it does not rank well yet."Thats the interesting part because it should already.I actually compete directly with Yelp on one niche section of their site and did a bit of research to see if theyre gaining ground and its nothing significant at the moment so Im not looking for a new career. What I find amusing is that one of my competitors launched a brand new niche site in Oct 07 which does the same type of SEO as Yelp, in theory but maybe better, and is in the top 10 for almost every city in the US for this niche with a PR0, impressive.Perhaps the days of the all-in-one directory ranking well are over?I certainly wont recommend they slice up Yelp into smaller pieces that rank better per topic, not me....
Bill,I think you hit the nail on the head. All-in-one directories have some SEO advantages but niche directories allow you to focus your SEO efforts in a way that is hard to compete with.
