This appears to be an affiliate shell for the MapIt Service. Just take a look at the entire setup and it's quite visible. Did you really think this is something the industry would find acceptable?
I wonder if that's the case, or this is just a case of some over-eager, if clueless people trying to make a living - you know - clueless to what the potential pitfalls are, not having true high end business experience... I just don't know at this point.
Ken from SEOHonesty responds to my article , agrees to take down their site - read his comments http://bit.ly/bZtllj
That whole thing just didn't sit right. I'm still very suspicious. Launched on May 1, 2010, closed on May 2, 2010. I'm not too certain we've heard the end of this one. I'm putting on me tinfoil hat, actually just adjusting it, so I can tune in to what might be transpiring here. Hey! It's Saturday, I can play left field if I want.
And Jill, I don't want to hear any sarcastic remarks about meds either. ;)
When I wrote the article this morning, it was in ALPHA - see the logo I used on my article. So now it's in beta? And it's not being taken down, even though Ken said it would be in a comment on my blog?
So now Ken has actually gone to taking it down, all but the logo (Beta logo, mind you...) and a statement that says
Site Removed.
We were going to wait until tomorrow so people could see the changes, but decided it's better now. :)Thanks for your feedback!
Well, sorry pageoneresults, but this one looks legit. It's just a niche web directory: You only get in via a recommendation and the fees are lower than with other directories. I'm a bit tired by now with your attacks on all people trying to set up a peer review website. The idea itself is not wrong and just because the people that do it don't start off perfectly it doesn't mean it's a "scam".
Step back a little and don't behave like you're the SEO special forces fighting terrorists.
Looks legit? There is no longer a website there. I'm assuming you saw the site prior to it being removed? Also, I don't recall where I ever mentioned the term legitimate?
I saw that. I also saw the upsell for the MapIt Listings which tied you into a monthly subscription fee if you chose to do so. The entire platform was built as an affiliate shell for the MapIt service, that's what it LOOKED like.
I might suggest that you not read them. And by the way, I just Sphunn Alan's review, I'm working on others at the moment. I have no qualms with peer review websites if that is what they are doing. I don't think those types of reviews work well in an affiliate type setting. In fact, the industry won't go for it.
It's already been discussed that if anything of this nature were to ever evolve, it would need to be non-profit and also be backed by a large group of industry names from all over the world. Not just some SEO Academy Graduates fresh out of boot camp, if you know what I mean. ;)
I never once mentioned the word scam, can you show me where I said that? If not, then please don't ever quote me as saying that, okay? Thank you.
Terrorists? I sure hope that isn't what is on the other end of these networks I'm following.
I've got a question for you, was there any involvement on your part with the SEOHonesty website?
LOL tired of Edwards attacks. Another stooge apparently. Because yes, this was an article that ALAN BLEIWEISS wrote, not Edward. So @onreact if you have a problem with this article, you need to talk with me. But before you do, get your information straight.
Wow, a lot of needless hostility here methinks.
