Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been studying the major social news websites. Reddit, being one of the top ones, was obviously tops on my list. I did everything that seemed to work well on Digg, Propeller, Newsvine, and most other social media sites.
The results were different from the others.

I always thought that account was a bot who just submitted every webpage on the internet to reddit and hoped for the best. I've seen him have 5 stories on the front page of reddit at once.

The one question I wished was asked is, "is submitting stories to reddit your fulltime job?"

Very good info in any case.

I wanted to ask him how large his Reddit staff was and how much he paid them, but it wasn't a face to face interview.

Nice tips...! Resubmitting is indeed the key to Reddit success...

some of my stories had to be submitted 15 or 20 times.. over the course of months... in order to escape the wrath of the abusive downmodders. If it's good and you tweak the headline to perfection, eventually it will take off.

I recommend submission at off-peak times... For whatever it's worth... early Sunday morning seems to have an open-minded and ameniable crowd.

Found it very instructive myself - didn't know about the re-submission trick, for instance.
Sometimes we get big traffic surges from Reddit, but through little or no making of our own. This piece goes to explain a bit of that.

I tried myself to submit, delete, resubmit, delete.  Ended up getting into a comment dogging match.  My Karma is 1800, so I get a few to the FP, but I'm having title troubles, can't get away from "anonymous_hater" -- that's his actual profile name -- yadayadayada.

SO, I deleted it again.  Maybe someone else will have better luck.

Digg, it made it to 60+ before getting buried.  Propeller, Sphinn, Stumble, Mixx -- great success at all three.

Still, it bugs me that I couldn't get it on the FP of reddit.  It's about reddit with quotes from the top reddit-guru.  Oh well.  I'll let it go.  Thanks for the submission, fantomaster.  Visit any time.
