This is an interesting article about the future of search and perhaps why we should invest more time in optimizing sites for SEs other than Google.

The problem with some of the other search engines is that the traffic doesn’t also follow the high ranking. And that’s OK. I think this article is a terrific reminder that there’s more to life than Google. Keywords, search/social users can match up in some cases. I have to explain to clients that 20% of traffic from other sources isn’t so bad as long as a decent amount is making its way to conversions.

Great words of advice mike. And a good article - talking about what, I think, a lot of SEOs overlook.

It sort of makes you wonder, if society didn’t place all this emphasis on Google, would everyone else switch over to the likes of Yahoo!, MSN or Ask for their marketing campaigns?? In the case of celebrities, if the paparazzi doesn’t follow them, they’re no longer in the news, thus everyone forgets about them. If we all detracted our attention from Google, I wonder what effect that would cause.

we’d need a much bigger chicken (maybe even a golden goose) before we’d even consider the refocusing our SEO-Energy on the ’other guys’.
