Stop nofollowing posts, either it is useful and deserves some link juice, or it is spam. People need to be rewarded for their work, and a link back to the content is too small a compensation for spending hours hunting for quality content that is of use to viewers. Google's new algo sees nofollow as a sign of spam. For that main reason I no longer post friends content anymore.

@seobro Posts that make it to the home page have the nofollow removed.

Please reconsider the usage  of the Facebook like button. It is killing me with how long it now takes pages to load especially on the primary tabs when it has to load 10 of them at a time.

Front page posts deserve Follow, others don't.  Otherwise you give the mass-mill spammers a reason to submit more irrelevant content.

My request is actually pretty small, pretty simple - external links to open in a new window.  When I click on an external link to read a post, and sometimes wait for that post to open...and sometimes wait some more...and some more...I would love to keep running through what else was submitted and maybe open a few other items.

By the time I am through all the upcoming submissions, I would then be able to read the articles I've opened and vote for those I like.

The way it is now, I have to open up multple windows with Sphinn which is an annoyance - not a big anoyance, but enough that I am requesting a simple fix.  :-)

Clicks on the title of post should go directly to the post - not to the sphinn subpage for that post and then have to click again to get to the actual post. I realize you guys are trying to boost your pageviews but its a terrible user experience.

@wmcook If you click on the link that says Source, you'll go straight to the post. Clicking on the title leads you to a page where you can discuss, on Sphinn, the article itself. There have been discussions on Sphinn that have had well over 100 comments on them. Thus, there's the option to go directly to the post, and there's the option to go to the discussion about the post.

@amabaie, every Sphinn item lists the source URL so that you can easily open in a new window. The default behavior won't do this, but with most browsers, just right click on the source link and select to open in a new window. That's what I do.

@wmcook the title of a post does go to the source document when you're reading the actual submission on Sphinn.

On the front page, this doesn't happen. It's not a page views thing. It's a usability thing. When we first launched Sphinn, that was one of the things we tried. It was confusing, because people who wanted to talk about the story on Sphinn couldn't figure out how to get to the discussion page.

But that's also why every story on the home page also lists the source URL. If you don't care about any related discussion and just want to read the source story, just select the "Source" link.

Great to see Matt - I've just done a post which adds some feedback on Sphinn:

With all the great ideas being floated, I need to resubmit my request (in case it got lost in the mix) that the option be given to get notified by email, with a link back to the thread, (and ideally including the latest comment) when a new comment is added to the Sphinn thread.  It's excruciatingly frustrating not having that - and I often have to spend a lot of time retracking articles to see whether additional comments have been added - especially since new articles are added all the time.

The "latest comments" box mitigates that a bit, yet it's still not ideal.  And the "Comments" tab at the top nav is actually just confusing to me.

I also have to agree with @matthewdiehl as far as how slow the hot, getting hot and hot/not page load. Sometimes they load reasonably fast, yet there are times when I sit here waiting and waiting while fbcdn.net is pinged over and over...

FireFox toolbar adOn that allows us to bookmark on Sphinn from whatever content we're on. Somehow bridge TweetDeck to post on Sphinn the same way we can on FB, Twitter, etc... Sphinn really matters. Let's rock this.

Not sure if this is in any plans or if it maybe already exists, but I would like a widget for my site showing which articles are on Sphinn so people can Sphinn it (preferably on my site of course ;) ). So not just a Sphinn button per article, but an overview of ALL articles from my (or any) site submitted to Sphinn.

I find Sphinn shines as a platform where all the SEOheads can comment on a neutral platform about a story or post.  I most enjoy reading the reactions to a post more than the post itself a lot of the time.

I used to rely on Sphinn for surfacing the SEO posts that matter but that has been superceeded by Twitter these days, and recently it seems I'm reading a good post up to a few days before it gets hot on Sphinn, and the front page stories hang around a long time and seem a bit stale - with that in mind I request that thought is given to surfacing the good stories quicker (combination of editorial promotions, sphinns, number of tweets and comments?) and a smooth and nice commenting system with threaded conversations.  Perhaps incentivise people to comment as well with daft badges or similar as well :)

Any way you can add a "Sphinn" to an article directly from the source?  That is without having to be linked to the Sphinn site and then re-clicking the Sphinn counter to add your vote?

All I care about is pageload speed. This seems to be the biggest reason I can't spend much time on the site. If it went more towards a DIGG-type UI, that would be OK. I think the commenting here on Sphinn is one of the most important things and keeping that simple is ideal.

Plus, if you could make an app for smart phones (iPhone and Android OS) I think it would be a homerun! I always spend hours and hours on Digg now because I can do it easily from my iPhone. It's great when at a ball game, riding in the car/airplane, and when in boring meetings!

@Matt

Oh. wow.  Cool!  I'll be using that link a lot!  I guess I'm just used to seeing the option as a checkbox in the comment box area so my brain somehow missed that it's been where it is all along!

Holy cow, I never knew we could do that either! I guess I somehow thought it was an rss subscribe rather than email. DUH....!

No press releases and no conference stuff regardless who it is :)

Also, load time irks me and very long posts seem to totally fall apart on my mac book pro with firefox at any rate - even short posts scrolling is annoying.

Could the social media butons be kept to post specific to speed up main page and cat page load times?

Apart from that I think Sphinn is still a great site - and the mods and editors do a great job all round.

PS - basing Sphinn on Pligg was a good start back in the day, but I think a more Tweetmeme style application system might be faster and more forward looking for this community, and make sphinn more relevent? That's a question by the way.

My forum (5 years old) is dofollow and 100% free of spam. It is easy to trace spam. Most of it is full of links and pictures. Let only long time users post links. Send all posts to mods and only auto approve people with high quality scores.
