If a review requires disclosure and you want to avoid the Wrath of Google, maybe putting “sponsored review” in an image is so much smarter.

Aside from the magic of OCR, one should note that an image containing the words "sponsored review" really ought to have an alt attribute of "sponsored review."

Yes... and the links in the sponsored review should be nofollow... Kinda defeats the purpose of hiding something in an image though :)

On a related note, a wonderful web organizer, Evernote, allows you to take cameraphone pics or clip images from web sites and then search them using OCRBack in 2005, Chris wrote a very positive review of the service for SEW..
