Congrats, stumbleupon is awesome.
Wow, I haven't gotten any exposure from StumbleUpon. Then again, I haven't really tried to get any exposure from it. But congratulations, that's a pretty big spike you got there.
StumbleUpon sends me around 15-20% of my daily traffic. All from posts that were from more than a month ago. Awesome indeed.
When it pops, it's great indeed.
At 6:54 PM EST, 629 referrals from StumbleUpon.
500% is great. But just make sure you don't stumble all your own posts. Congrats.
How exactly are you submitting your posts? I added my own blog as a favorite, but do I need to go to individual posts? We have some really good posts that are a couple months old now, but gave us a fair amount of traffic when they were fresh. Wouldn't mind having that happen again.
I believe part of the SU algo has something to do with whether or not a site has been submitted to the SU network. If it's the first time, then your traffic will spike like mine did. Even though I've been SEO/SEMing for a few years, My blog is only about 2 - 3 weeks old and this was my first submit. Consecutive submits haven't garnered the traffic the first one did.
I know Cameron Olthius has just written a great post on Search Engine Land about getting the most from Stumbleupon, definitely worth a read
Just check my stats to see what StumbleUpon can do with the number of visitors. http://getclicky.com/stats/home?site_id=9903
Almost 15.000 visitors in three days. It's killing my 3gb bandwidth hosting account :-)
I also have had a huge spike in traffic on 3 of my clients sites. Although the traffic is there but highly untargeted, and the analytics are showing a good T.O.S. and Page Views, but they never , ever convert. Regardless, I wasn't expecting all that extra traffic from there.. I wonder, is there any organic or link value for having the pages bookmarked in SU other than the obvious, the traffic
I agree with the others here that you can get a spike of traffic, but the quality of the traffic (measured by bounce rate and length of stay) is not that good. I did an experiment of my own with Stumbleupon and here were my results: http://aldebaranwebdesign.com/blog/stumbleupon-my-experiment-to-increase-website-traffic-using-stumbleuponcom/
great spikes of traffic, bad conversion. stubmlers just don't click on ads...
Each "great spike of SU traffic" comes with new RSS subscriptions and bookmarks, that's visitors you can convert later on. Stumblers don't click fanciless ads on the landing page, but some of them check the about page, main page, and, if you have such a beast, the sitemap or category list with post links. If you're doing great with SU, then make sure that you catch these few stumblers that click further. BTW, if you've only text above the fold then don't bother.
