Is commenting an offer I can't refuse or the other way around?? Gosh, I'm so confused....
Great read.
Or is it "Digg this story or you'll wake up with a horse's head in your bed."?
I don't agree. Tom Hagen should be Reddit. Reddit users are vocal but intelligent and there is a system there... you just need to spend enough time on it to discover the patterns.
It's not impossible to comprehend. I have used Reddit for a very long time, sometimes hours a day. After a while... it just comes to you. You just need to engage with it for a long time... like how long Tom Hagan has been with the Family. You need to earn their trust.
Did you notice how Reddit users voted up a thread about how they rather spend time checking out Reddit instead of hanging out with the family on thanksgiving? 2228 votes, baby.
Notice how they even go to great lengths to check Reddit at work? Their loyalty to Reddit is comparable to Hagan's incredible dedication to the Family.
They are Hagans dedicated to the hive.
Sonny should be StumbleUpon... he is inconsistant, brash and he flips flops according to his mood.
I don't agree with the Propeller = Fredo comparison as well but hell, I'll sphinn this to give props to The Godfather alone.
Hi DoshDosh,
It is, of course, futile to argue with a respected member of Sphinn, but here are the reasonings for the "castings"....
Between Newsvine and Reddit, Newsvine seems to be the more "cerebral" of the two. It is also the most "outside of the family" in look, feel, and content. I understand the concern about Reddit - upon rereading the post, it appears that I am insulting Reddit, which was definitely not the intention. There is definitely an undercurrent of obnoxious, Sonny-like headlines that make it to the front page that would have a hard time making it on the more sedate Newsvine. I'm not saying that Reddit is "dumb" -- I enjoy it more than the others most of the time -- but rudeness and sensationalism is rewarded moreso on Reddit than Newsvine.
The rest of what you said, I mostly agree. StumbleUpon could actually fit anyone in the family, depending on the slant. Fredo/Propeller -- it was a stretch, but I was latching onto the idea that as the older brother, he felt that he shouldn't have to be secondary to Michael, just as Propeller/Netscape wishes they weren't secondary to Digg and Reddit.
Thanks for the Sphinn! I love your blog, btw.
@AutomativeSEO
Heh. Fair enough... we are comparing social websites to a fictional Mafia after all.
Good luck with your article on Digg. I dugg it. :)
Fictional? The Godfather was fictional? I thought it was a documentary!
It was actually partially based on reality. The singer who needed out of his contract was Frank Sinatra and he did manage to get out of his contract and get that war movie that made him a star.
